A little about me:
I am currently studying Bachelor of Nursing at University of Western Sydney and will graduate in November 2015.
I believe that hard work and strong work ethics are the key to success, and this is reflected in my current academic achievements – earning a GPA of 5.8. I have been given the opportunity to transfer into Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced) where I can apply myself to leadership opportunities within my undergraduate degree.
At my current part-time job, Woolworths, I have shown leadership and organisational skills, whereby occasionally working as a supervisor or 2ic.
My career goal is to successfully complete a NSW Health nursing graduate program in 2016. Once completed, I would like to specialize in pediatric intensive care nursing. I am also keen to continue my studies (postgraduate) and participate in research projects.
As a student nurse, I understand the importance of being a critical thinker; this is reflected by my high grades in assessments in my undergraduate studies. In my portfolio you will find my reflections, where I identify developmental needs to become a competent nurses. These attributes coincide with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia; national competency standards for the registered nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2006).
Nurses must value the diversity of people as part of the code of ethics for nursing in Australia (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, 2008). Understanding and respecting the diversity of people allows one to acknowledge that everyone is unique and has something to offer to society, regardless of culture, sexuality and economic status. This understanding will allow me to be holistic health practitioner.
